THE 36TH CHAMBER
Ève Magot, 2011
Not touching the ground anymore.
Changing my perspective on the world and myself.
Discovering myself differently. Feeling transformed.
Finding solutions to an injury.
Sublimating a disability, a limitation.
Letting go and watching time roll by.
Discovering my weight, my contradictions, and the liberation restraint brings as a source of new possibilities.
Going to the limits and then coming back to earth having met with gravity and discovered a new lightness.
“His feet hooked through black loops,Eve Magot suspends themself at the end of a rope, upside down, counterweighted by a jerrycan. From this position, they creates astonishing images which variously evoke the fall and the strangeness of a body that finds itself in tight spots, restricted and yet free in its movements. Eve Magot plays with this body, limited, a ‘failure’, like an alien body that must be reconquered and remounted. The obstacle becomes another means of letting go, of observing and experiencing movement again with softness and fluidity.
This solo offers 30 minutes of sensitive meditation on what animates the deepest part of the body, and allows Eve Magot to create them own aerial sculpture and to dissolve the conventional organisation of the body – starting with the way we represent it.”
Gérard Mayen in danser magazine, november 2011
“Head down, at ground level and in astonishing slow motion, Eve Magot inhabits The 36th Chamber. […] They seems to explore them body, its environment, in harmony with the impressive calm surrounding it […] Circus, even the contemporary kind, plays with itself and its apparatuses to flirt with the spectacular. There’s nothing like it! An anti-apparatus! The 36th Chamber, where you stumble upon the private life of its occupant, makes no attempt to impress the eye.”
Thomas Hahn in Stradda magazine, april 2014
